EYFS

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework supports an integrated approach to early learning and care. It gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.

As well as being the core document for all professionals working in the foundation years, the EYFS framework gives parents and carers the confidence that regardless of where they choose for their child’s early education, they can be assured that the same statutory commitments and principles will underpin their child’s learning and development experience.

Learning is FUN in the Early Years!

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is taught in Reception. 
This curriculum is is divided into six areas of learning which are:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development 


All of the areas of learning are equally important and taught through a mixture of direct teaching and learning through play.


Our curriculum planning for Reception follows the interests of the learners so the contexts are not rigidly planned however teachers plan from a "menu" of carefully considered contexts to ensure and broad and balanced coverage throughout the year which ensures all of the areas of learning are delivered.

PLAY!

We value the importance of play as the medium through which a child learns and grows. Play motivates children and helps them make sense of the world through direct experience. Through careful planning we ensure that the children have a wide range of challenging and stimulating experiences which excite their curiosity, interest and motivation.

Take the Learning Outdoors

When children learn and play outdoors they build skills for the future. Outdoor learning improves children’s health, engages them with learning and leads to a greater connection with nature. Play not only teaches critical life skills such as resilience, teamwork and creativity, but is central to children’s enjoyment of childhood. Outdoor learning at Faldingworth School happens in our wonderful outdoor classroom, in our woodland area, on our playing field, on our newly installed trike track and in the community.

At Faldingworth School, we have a high quality outside learning environment which the children are able to use throughout the day to take part in activities that are self initiated or directed by the teacher.
